Retford’s former police station has changed quite a bit since a local husband and wife team took over the building in 2017. “We both saw the potential in the building and knew we could transform the upstairs into rooms and the space downstairs would make a great bar and restaurant”
The original 1890's Victorian entrance has now been re-opened as the hotel reception with eye-catching tiled flooring which leads onto the 12 en-suite hotel rooms plus a self-contained apartment. The original parquet flooring has also been put to good use throughout the hotel and restaurant, with much of it being incorporated into the Kings Park Hotel reception desk along with The Old Police Station’s bar plus the kitchen’s counter area.
Dining in the 30-seat restaurant, The Old Police Station, the chefs rustle up daily mouth-watering modern British cuisine and do their upmost best to accommodate requests. Wherever possible, the ingredients are sourced locally and all dishes are made fresh at the time of order. The Head Chef regularly introduces a new lunch and dinner menu plus additional menus which coincide with The Old Police Station’s forthcoming events.
For something a little more unique, why not opt to dine in one of the two former cells with their original brick and tiled walls, reinforced metal doors complete with spy hole still in place and no doubt many a story to tell.
In the summer months the restaurant can open its bi-fold doors to the courtyard. With its modern garden furniture, it is a real sun trap where guests can enjoy their food and drinks in the sunshine; a fabulous upgrade on what was originally the exercise yard!
